Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense has achieved FedRAMP Class D (High) certification, a designation that signifies the solution meets stringent U.S. government standards for cloud product security. This certification applies specifically to Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense for Government, which is designed to protect sensitive communications for federal agencies, contractors, and organizations handling regulated data.

The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) provides a standardized approach for assessing, authorizing, and continuously monitoring cloud services used by the U.S. government. The Class D (High) impact level is the most rigorous, indicating that the solution has undergone extensive evaluation to protect classified, controlled unclassified information (CUI), and other sensitive government data.

Cisco stated that this certification underscores its commitment to high security and compliance standards for public sector and regulated industry customers. The company highlighted several benefits of the FedRAMP authorization, including an enhanced security posture due to stringent controls and continuous monitoring, high-assurance cloud security, and ongoing risk visibility.

For organizations, particularly those handling CUI, the certification ensures compliance with federal mandates like FISMA, simplifies procurement, and can accelerate Authority to Operate (ATO) processes. It also aims to reduce vendor risk by demonstrating extensive third-party assessment and adherence to government security controls. It can be integrated as an API-based supplemental control or via a new Inline Mode for pre-delivery gateway-level protection. The solution is designed to detect and mitigate threats such as Business Email Compromise (BEC), phishing, QR code-based attacks (quishing), and brand impersonation, with seamless integration into platforms like Microsoft Office 365.

The product has previously received industry accolades, including an SE Labs AAA rating and leadership rankings in the 2025 KuppingerCole Leadership Compass for Email Security. The FedRAMP certification further reinforces its position in secure email solutions, according to Cisco.
