Microsoft has confirmed an outage impacting search functionality across several of its Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook on the web, Outlook desktop, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive. The company acknowledged that some users were experiencing difficulties searching for content within these services.

The incident, tracked under the code MO1456424 in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, was attributed to a recent deployment. According to Microsoft's internal incident report, this deployment introduced an inefficiency in resource utilization, which subsequently led to the service disruption.

Microsoft stated that the impact was specific to users served by the affected infrastructure who were attempting to perform searches. The company has since developed and deployed a fix aimed at alleviating resource pressure and restoring full service for all impacted Microsoft 365 users.

While Microsoft has not specified the geographic regions affected by this outage, the classification as an "incident" typically indicates a critical service issue with a significant user impact. This event follows similar incidents in the past where Microsoft addressed search-related issues in OneDrive, Outlook on the web, and SharePoint Online. In July, the company also resolved a major outage that affected Azure and Microsoft 365 services for users in North America, which was caused by a bug in an automated network maintenance system that inadvertently removed IP routes. More recently, on Monday, Microsoft resolved an eight-hour outage impacting GitHub's website, API, and other services, leading to server errors and issues loading repositories and pull requests for users.
