Amazon has elected cybersecurity veteran Kevin Mandia to its Board of Directors, a move announced on September 8. Mandia brings over 30 years of experience in combating cyber threats across both public and private sectors, with Amazon citing cybersecurity as a critical risk and responsibility, particularly in light of evolving AI-driven threats.
Mandia is widely recognized as the founder and former CEO of Mandiant, a cybersecurity firm acquired by Google in September 2022. His career also includes significant government service, having worked as a computer security officer at the Pentagon and later as a special agent in the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
Beyond his foundational role at Mandiant, Mandia has continued to be active in the cybersecurity industry. He currently serves as the founder and CEO of Armadin, a security company specializing in large and complex environments. Additionally, he is a co-founder and general partner at Ballistic Ventures, a venture capital firm dedicated to funding and mentoring security founders.
His public service record extends to advisory roles, including membership on the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and CISA’s Cybersecurity Advisory Committee, which provides guidance to the federal agency responsible for safeguarding civilian government networks. Amazon's decision to appoint Mandia underscores its commitment to integrating high-level cybersecurity expertise into its strategic decision-making processes.
